Lecture for CTU-FS: Design of parts for 3D printing, topological optimization (PDF)
Design of parts for 3D printing, topological optimization - Advanced Engineering lecture for Faculty of Mechanical Engineering CTU.
In cooperation with the Institute of Machining Technology, Design and Metrology, we prepared a lecture on lightweighting, structural optimization and the potential of additive manufacturing for the design of shape-efficient solutions for the Additive and Alternative Technologies course. In the lecture held on 19 October 2020, students gained an overview of optimization methods and the principles on which they are based, how they fit into the product development cycle, how they are combined with manufacturability simulations and practical examples from the field. Most space was devoted to topology optimizations, including a demonstration of the workflow in the Altair Inspire simulation tool. Finally, students were given a brief insight into more advanced simulations and optimizations such as multi-physics and multi-criteria optimizations, lattice structures or building optimized composite parts.
