Mechanics and Flow Analysisof Lattice and Gyroid Structuresfor Additive Manufacturing by Vojtěch Rulc

We participated in the Manufacturing Technology Pilsen 2026 conference with a lecture by Vojtěch Rulc. The topic was advanced modeling of lattice structures using implicit geometry technology and their subsequent structural and CFD analyses.

Among other things, the lecture mentioned:

  • Experience and results from the R&D project with the University of West Bohemia, where we were tasked with validating the material characteristics of 3D-printed materials with lattice structures, including subsequent explicit simulations of destructive impact tests that were physically impossible to perform.
  • Modeling technique using implicit geometry (Altair Inspire), which can then be used to perform strength analyses and subsequent optimizations in the form of changes to fine structure parameters almost immediately, without meshing.
  • Applications for coolers and heat exchangers. In addition to strength analyses (with SimSolid solver), you can now perform rapid flow analyses (CFD analyses using Inspire Fluids), where you can obtain results that would be impossible to achieve elsewhere in just a few minutes of machine time.
  • A breakpoint is coming, when previously technically, time-consuming, and unprofitable tasks of designing and simulating porous structures were impossible. This opens up further potential for components manufactured using additive technologies.

You can view the presentation from this lecture here on our website in the Resources section.
